SHEILA HICKS
11/19/12 4 notesSheila Hicks was a pioneer of the 70s fiber art movement and is a VC inspirational high priestess. Here are our versions of her metaphors:(Arthur Danto take note……)
This weaving is a metaphor for post-holiday weight gain

Bad-hair day

This weaving is meant to evoke a shitty high school ska band

This weaving is like the time you went to the Bahamas with your family and all got braids with plastic beads at the end

That hot guy at the Healthfood store you met in the live kefir yogurt section

PHONES
11/06/12 18 notesDoes anyone else miss the glamour of having one of these in your house? Holding the phone up to your ear with your shoulder, dragging the cord around, dramatically hanging up on people….
There is something about the shape and color of the plastic, the buttons and dials, and having a little piece of functional art at your fingertips.

GATHER JOURNAL
11/01/12 4 notesWe just picked up the premiere issue of Gather Journal and can’t stop fawning over the beautiful food photos. The magazine has some amazing recipes (Spiced Lotus Chips!) but we can’t help being the most appetized by that giant looking Cheeto.

PILATES
10/26/12 20 notesWe at Vena Cava Love Pilates. Something about the dance-wear outfits, the leather and metal S&M looking reformers, and the eccentric old ladies that do it. Who doesn’t love exercise you can do while laying on your back, wearing dark glasses?

Attention fellow women! Our vote alone can win this election- we will not go backwards.A vote for Obama is:a vote for your health and your right to choosea vote for equal pay and equal rightsa vote for our familiesa vote to marry who you choosea vote to start a family when you choosea vote to ensure that our daughters will grow up with the same rights that we’ve had. -
HALLOWEEN: A THESIS
10/18/12 2 notesHalloween is hands down my favorite holiday of the year- and the best excuse to walk around in public looking like an asshole. I pride myself on coming up with great Halloween concepts, but my execution is pretty hit or miss. Ive had some real good times and some real dark times over the past few years.
Here’s a brief survey:
GOOD:
Patrician electrician- half marie antoinette, half electrician. Most people thought I was Egon from Ghostbusters, which was cool with me.
Grand Opening Bodega! a very successful costume for several years that included jams from La Mega spanish radio, drunk people “hanging outside” and lots of Goya products and condoms
Paula Poundstone- so easy. I already have a bob and an oversized blazer
Bruno Plays Football (my version of Bruno’s football themed spread in GQ in 2009)
Baby Colin Powell
BAD:
Laika- the first dog in space. Poorly executed and confusing- it looked more like MOG from spaceballs. Half Freddy Mercury, Half Freddie Prinze Jr. Also confusing. And crappy.
Deep down, I just want to come up with the ideas for the costumes so that you, gentle reader, can make them for yourself! Here’s some ideas for this year- submissions are welcome!
