They say behind every great man there is an even greater woman. I think this was especially the case with Charlotte Perriand. But unlike a lot of the great behind the scenes women, she got her due.

  • HOUSE WEAR

    01/31/13   8 notes
We are all fawning over this small magazine Sophie picked up at Family in LA. It is full of beautiful still life photos and interesting articles. We had to find out who was masterminding it. It’s two super rad Australian ladies (who also have an awesome blog) and they are working on the next issue as we speak.

MANY MANY is a creative collaboration between architectural designer Stephanie Poole and publisher Rachel Elliot-Jones. Past projects span curation, independent publishing, art direction, writing and installation. MANY MANY initiated the HOUSE WEAR project in 2011, with an eponymous exhibition as part of Melbourne’s State of Design Festival. A publication series followed, with Issue 1 released in September that year. Issue 2 is due to be launched in 2013.

Terence Conran is the master. No one does a bedroom like him. Here are some of our favorites from his 1978 Edition of The Bed and Bath book.

    01/14/13   15 notes
We are excited to introduce Patrick Parrish as a new guest contributor to the Vena Cava blog.

He is the owner of the Manhattan gallery Mondo Cane and is the eye behind the popular blog MONDOBLOGO. He has recently contributed to Apartamento, Bad Day and 01 Magazines with his photography and interviews of Jim Walrod, Martino Gamper, Ro/Lu and Project No.8. He is a curator, collector, sometimes painter and always has a camera in his pocket.

His Instagram feed is one of our favorites and we are big fans of Mondo Cane and MondoBlogo.

He is going to share some rad shit with you, gentle readers….

    Here is his first post.

    Sophie Taeuber-Arp Ascona 1925

I didn’t know much about Sophie Taeuber-Arp until a few months ago. Of course, we all love her husband Hans Arp

But Sophie had been unfairly overlooked by many apparently. No longer though! A great new monograph is out: “Movement and Balance Sophie Taeuber-Arp 1889-1943” It’s great!

  • WET: THE MAGAZINE OF GOURMET BATHING

    01/09/13   26 notes

If you ever find a copy of WET on eBay, buy it.

It’s got to be one of the best 70’s art/lifestyle magazines.

A magazine all about bathing and art? Yes.

Leonard Koren created Wet in conjunction with some of the artwork he was making at the time, which he called “bath art”. 34 issues of Wet were published between 1976-1981, encapsulating the post-modern vibe of late 70s/early 80s Los Angeles.

It’s pages included articles on hidden California hot springs, how to build a redwood hot tub, surf culture, the Venice skateboarding scene and artwork by David Hockney and Ed Rusha. A young Matt Groening contributed cartoons and Peter Shire was invited to join the Memphis Group, after his teapots were seen in the magazine.

Pretty good subject. Someone should bring it back.

  • VENA CAVA TABLESCAPES

    01/07/13   17 notes

We Vena Cava ladies are fans of elegant dining. Nothing like drinking your Kombucha out of a splatter paint ceramic mug, or eating your kale and steak salad from a carved wooden vessel.  A well set table that breaks the Martha Stewart mold is exciting. One day, we hope to introduce a line of table wear. For now… here are some inspirations.
